Inside Ickymelon’s Maskqueeraid Party

Last Saturday, Ickymelon hosted Maskqueeraid, a 21+ COVID-conscious dance party at the industrial City-State Brewing Co. in NE D.C. From across Baltimore to Virginia, the sold-out party gathered masked-up gworls to ground in keeping each other safe and shaking ass, respectfully. To gain admission, attendees were strictly required to show proof of a negative COVID-19 rapid test taken day-of and wear at least a KN95-grade mask. Masking, still the most effective way to protect against the surging spread of viruses like COVID-19, RSV, etc., was turned into a mysterious, fashionable, and safe event premise for those resisting widespread pandemic fatigue. The event included arcade games, free reproductive supplies, and even a kinky photo booth. The crowd did not disappoint. With sets by DJ Slammer of Anthology of Booty and the DJ duo Xbems, there was enough toiling and grinding to last till the final minute.

Here’s what it was like inside, photographed by editor-in-chief Damon Barnes.
